Executive Director

Bridge is a mind sport similar to chess, but as a partnership-based sport, it fosters social growth in addition to mental challenge. The ACBL Educational Foundation, a 501(c)(3), was created in 1987 as an independent offshoot of the American Contract Bridge League. Its mission is to get more people to play bridge, both through increasing the number of competitive bridge players, and by introducing the game to people of all ages and from all walks of life. The Foundation receives its support from contributions made by individuals, families, and corporations, and awards grants for programs that carry out its mission.

Position Overview:

The Foundation is seeking a strong leader and excellent communicator with proven experience in major, planned and annual giving plus the ability to execute the grantmaking goals of the organization. The ideal candidate understands the mission of the Foundation and has a clear vision to put it into a long-term view.

Candidate must be adept in technology, skilled in the use of data management systems, have financial management abilities to include budgeting, analysis of financial reports and use of relevant financial software. The candidate will have the capacity to manage at least one staff person, along with project leaders, interns and/or volunteers, program developers and organizational partners when needed.  

A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education/experience and at least five years of cumulative advancement experience, including leadership and management, is a must. Responsibilities:

  • Lead fundraising efforts via grant writing, fundraising campaigns, and events
  • Oversee and coordinate the Foundation’s operations and programs
  • Publicize the efforts of the foundation
  • Coordinate the volunteer board to assist with the foundation’s mission
  • Travel to the three NABCS (North American Bridge Championships) plus more travel, as required

Qualifications:

  • Nonprofit fundraising and development experience
  • Marketing experience
  • Experience with communication tools
  • Knowledge of grantmaking and assessment processes
  • Experience working with volunteers
  • Successful people management skills
  • Ability to work remotely and lead virtual workgroups
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to coordinate multiple projects at one time

The salary range for this position is $80-$100K annually.
